Jean was born about 1362 in Dundonald, Ayrshire, Scotland.  Jean's father was Robert II Stuart and her mother was Euphemia of Ross.  Her paternal grandparents were Walter Stewart and Margaret De Bruce; her maternal grandparents were Hugh of Ross and Margaret Graham. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Walter, David, Margaret, Isabel Eufeme and Egidia. She had thirteen half-brothers and five half-sisters, named Walter, Robert of, Alexander of Buchan, Robert III, John, James of Kinfauns, John of Arntullie, John of Burley, John of Caridney, Alexander, Alexander of Inverlunan, Thomas, Walter, Margaret, Jean, Marjorie, Elizabeth and Katherine.  She died about 1446 in Crawford, Clydesdale, Lanarkshire, Scotland.

‌Jean and David were married in a religious ceremony about 1380 in Glenesk, Angus, Scotland.  They had four sons and two daughters, named Alexander, David, Gerard, Ingelram, Elizabeth and Marjory.
