Robert I of was born on July 11th, 1274 in Writtle, Near Chelmsford, Essex, England.  Robert I of's father was Robert De Brus and his mother was Margaret De Galloway.  His paternal grandparents were Robert De Brus and Isabel De Clare; his maternal grandparents were Nigel or Neil De Carrick and Margaret Stewart. He had a brother and four sisters, named Edward, Isabel, Christina, Margaret and Mary.  He died at the age of 54 on June 7th, 1329 in Cardross Castle, Firth of Clyde, Dumbartons, Scotland.
