John L. Patterson 
John L. was born in 1800 in Rutherford Co, NC. John L.'s father was David Patterson and his mother was Charity Watterson Simmons. His maternal grandparents were James S. Simmons and Mary Watterson Waters. He had two brothers and five sisters, named Charles S., Elisha Slyvanius, Mary S., Nancy Morris, Elizabeth Watteson, Sarah "Sally" R. and Christianna Payne. He was the third oldest of the eight children. He had a half-brother and two half-sisters, named John, Martha and Margaret.
