Her paternal grandparents were Phillip McConnell and Sarah McClelland; her maternal grandparents were Matthew Adams and Elizabeth Luke. She had four brothers and eight sisters, named John, Milas, David Addison, William, Agnes, Elizabeth, Jane, Martha Margaret, Mary, Kesiah, Rachel Susan and Patience.
