Raoul I was born in Boves, Somme, France.  Raoul I's father was Enguerrand II De Coucy and his mother was Agnes De Baugency.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas De Boves and Melisende De Crecy; his maternal grandparents were Raoul I De Beaugency and Mahaut De Vermandois. He had a brother named Enguerrand III.  He died on November 1st, 1191 in Acre, Palestine.

‌Raoul I and Agnes were married in a religious ceremony in 1164.  They had three daughters named Yolande, Ada and Isabelle.

‌Raoul I and Alix were married in a religious ceremony in 1174.  They had four sons and a daughter, named Raoul, Robert, Enguerrand, Thomas and Agnes.
