Robert of was born about 1339 in Dundonald Castle, Ayrshire, Scotland.  Robert of's father was Robert II Stuart and his mother was Elizabeth Mure.  His paternal grandparents were Walter Stewart and Margaret De Bruce; his maternal grandparents were Adam of Rowallan Mure and Janet Danzielstour. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Walter, Alexander of Buchan, Robert III, Margaret, Jean, Marjorie, Elizabeth and Katherine. He had eleven half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Walter, David, John, James of Kinfauns, John of Arntullie, John of Burley, John of Caridney, Alexander, Alexander of Inverlunan, Thomas, Walter, Margaret, Jean, Isabel Eufeme and Egidia.  He died on September 2nd, 1420 in Stirling Castle, Stirlingshire, Scotland.  He was buried in Dunfermline Abbey, Fife, Scotland.

‌Robert of and Margaret were married in a religious ceremony after September 9th, 1361.  They had two sons and three daughters, named John, Murdoch, Isabel, Janet and Margaret.
