Hugh was born in 1333 in Kinderton,Chestershire,England.1   Hugh's father was Sir Knight Hugh Venables and his mother is Katherine *Houghton.  His paternal grandfather was 6th Baron Kinderton Hugh Venables and his paternal grandmother is Agatha *Vernon. He has three brothers and a sister, named Roger, Thomas, Richard and Joan.  He is the third oldest of the five children. He has two half-brothers and a half-sister, named William, John and Anilla.
