Hugh d'Eure, known as of Stokesley, was born about 1220 in Iver,Eton,Buckinghamshire,England. Of Stokesley's father was Lord of Warkworth John FitzRobert Clavering and his mother was Ada Balliol. His paternal grandparents were Robert Fitzroger Clavering and Margaret Cheney; his maternal grandfather was Hugh Balliol and his maternal grandmother is Cicely de la Fontaine. He had two brothers named Roger Fitzjohn and Robert Fitzjohn. He is the second oldest of the three children.-
