Robert P. was born on March 4th, 1885 in Katowice, Warschawa, , Poland. Robert P.'s father was Valentine Knosalla and his mother was Mary Breitsch. His paternal grandparents were Nicolas Knosalla and Marinka Winckel; his maternal grandparents are Stanislav Breitsch and Josefa Schuster. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Peter Konrad, John Heinrich, Theodore Joseph, Francis, Agnes Maria, Katharina, Clara and Maria Johanna. He is the fourth youngest of the nine children.-
