His paternal grandparents were Richard Danvers and Agnes de Brancestre; his maternal grandparents are John Bruly and Matilda Quartermain. He had seven brothers and eight sisters, named Robert, Richard, John, Thomas, William, Simon, Edward, Joane, Agnes, Amicia, Elizabeth, Alicia, Miss, Margaret and Bova.
