Josiah Austin 
Josiah was born in August 1795 in Cornwall, Addison, Vermont, USA. Josiah's father was Nathaniel Austin and his mother was Anna Merritt. His paternal grandparents were Nathaniel Austin and Abigail Richmond. He had five brothers named Edmund, Nathaniel, Dan "Old Black Dan", UNKNOWN and Francis. He was the second youngest of the six children. He died at the age of 80 on October 16th, 1875 in Shoreham, Addison, Vermont, USA.General Notes
ID: I540977721 One World Tree, Ancestry.com:He is on the 1830 census in Cornwall. Josiah's household showed one male under 5, one between 20 and 30. There were three females, two under age 5, and one between 20 and 30. Edmund Austin and Francis Austin, apparently brothers, are also shown on the 1830 Shoreham census. He does not show up on the 1840 census in Cornwall, but does appear in Shoreham, 9 miles southwest of Cornwall. Conceivably, he never moved but was just placed in another township or something. Josiah, Edmund, and Daniel Austin are in Shoreham according to the1840 census. The 1840 census has Josiah and Daniel Austin on page 167, one page behind Edmund Austin, all in Shoreham. On this census, Josiah's household has one male between 30 and 40, one between 10 and 15, and one under 5. The females include one aged 30 to 40, two between 10 and 15, and one between 5 and 10. The males and females aged correctly with a new son under the age of 5 and a new daughter between 5 and 10. It does not appear that people of George or Sarah Austin Cole's age are in the household. The Shoreham School District #7 shows that Josiah had five "Scholars" in as of March 2, 1829, and again five in 1840. The children do not especially match up, even assuming that Josiah moved to Cornwall for the 1830 census and then back to Shoreham. That may be the case, though, because I have no notes showing he had children in the intervening years. Josiah is on the 1850 Salisbury, Addison County, census. (Salisbury is east of Cornwall and Whiting). He is 50, a farmer, no real estate value, and born in Vermont as was everyone in the household. Eliza was 39, Levi 19, Clarinda 17, Frances 14, Juliette 8, Phebe Ann 6, William 4, and Louisa 1. Louisa's later marriage information shows her name as Lucina and her birth place as Crown Point, New York, so perhaps Josiah had moved his family there for awhile (note there are no children in school in Shoreham after 1840). Also, Eliza's birth place is New York per several sources, so perhaps Josiah and Eliza lived near her family for a time. I cannot find him on the 1860 census. Joshua was next door to Horace Austin on the 1870 Weybridge census. This seems to be Josiah, as he is 73, farm laborer, no real estate value, but $100 for personal property, Eliza 71, Juliett 24, and Malinda 10, all born in Vermont. Juliett had a child in 1860 per birth records but neither the child nor the father was named. I believe that Malinda must have been the child born to Juliette in 1860. Austins of America, Notebook 18, pg 65, has his death information and lists his parents as Nathaniel and Emma, however, when I transcribed the data from the appropriate LDS microfilm, I found it as Anna.
