Jane was born in 1838 in Vermont, USA. Jane's father was Daniel Frank Austin and her mother was Emily Lewis. Her paternal grandparents were Edmund Austin and Lydia Dutchen or Dutchin. She has six brothers and four sisters, named Daniel A., Lane L., Lewis, Alonzo Daniel, William, Edwin S., Alquera, Maria, Wealthy M. and Matilda. She is the fourth youngest of the eleven children. She has a half-brother and a half-sister, named Daniel Frank and Sarah A..General Notes
