He had three half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Levi, Francis, William, Clarinda, Juliette, Phebe Ann and Lucina (Louisa). I have a July 3, 1859, marriage date and Cornwall for the marriage, but I do not remember the source. Several sources point to an 1836 birthdate, but 1837 is used on his daughter Cora's birth information and the 1860 Cornwall census. The family is on the 1860 Cornwall census: Frank, 23, farm laborer, no values, Betsy19, Jennett 6/12, all born in Vermont. They are next door to the Benjamin and Jane Austin Rider family. Jane is the daughter of his cousin Daniel. The family is on the 1880 Shoreham census with no surprises, other than Lucy is shown as Sarah. They are living next to Kent and Susan Wright. Could Susan be Susan Austin, Old Black Dan's daughter? Birth information for Cora, Lucy, and Betsy state that Francis and Betsy S. Austin were both born in Shoreham. Did this Francis (Frank) marry Emma Turrell in 1882, second marriage for both? I believe they are the same person and that Frank's first wife, Betsy Merritt died giving childbirth to their 10th child on August 16, 1882. He then married Emma in December. Emma's mother was Minerva Merritt, so perhaps Emma was a cousin to his first wife, Betsy. Minerva could be a sister to Betsy's father, Thomas Merritt. Frank's marriage certificate to Emma states he was born in 1836 as does the birth certificate for son Nathan. Older records indicate an 1837 date, however. The marriage certificate for Frank and Emma states that the marriage is the second for both. They were both from Shoreham and Frank was a laborer. The birth certificate for his son, Nathan, shows Francis and Emma as residents of Shoreham and having been born there as well. Frank is shown as a farmer. The certificate for his son, Frank, shows him as a farmer in Shoreham and having been born in Crown Point, New York. The 1900 Shoreham census shows Frank, born April 1838, age 62, married 17 years, born in Vermont as were everyone in the household and their parents, a farm laborer, not unemployed during the prior year, and cannot read or write. Emma was born August 1845, age 54, married 17 years, had two children, both of whom survived, and can read and write. The children are Edward, born October 1872, age 27, single, a farm laborer, cannot read or write; Charles, June 1874, age 25, singled farm laborer, can read and write, Nathan, April 1884, age 16, single, farm laborer, can read or write; and Franklyn, June 1891, age 8 and in school seven months. The first two children are Frank's with Betsy Merritt and the last two by his second wife, Emma. The grantee/grantor indexes show a Frank Austin as a grantee from S. White (While?) Book 12, page 272. This Book shows entries after 1881. Book 16, page 163 shows possibly a will or probate land recordation. I don't know what year that Book 16 would cover. There appear to be other transactions, as well.
