ORIGINS OF THE NAME MOWBRAY:
The name stems from the small villag of Montbray in Normandy. This lies about 10 km. NE of the town of Villedieu-les-Poeles, which itself is 22 km NEW of Avranches on the bay of Mont Saint Michel. From this village came Geoffrey de Montbray who came to be Bishop of Coutances and accompanied Duke William of Normandy at the Conquest of England in 1066. [http://www.mowfam.freeserve.co.uk]
