Pierre was born in 1128 in Reims, Marne, France.  Pierre's father was , "The Fat" King of France Louis VI and his mother was Agnes De Maurienne.  His paternal grandparents were "The Fair" King of France Philippe I and Bertha Von Westfriesland of Holland; his maternal grandparents were II, Count of Savoy Humbert and Gisele of Burgundy. He had three brothers and two sisters, named King of France, Robert I, Peter Lord, Princess France and Princess of France. He had a half-brother named Archembaud VIII.  He died at the age of 54 in 1182 in Palestine.

‌Pierre and Elizabeth were married in a religious ceremony after 1150 in France.  They had a daughter named Alix.
