Emma Josephine was born on April 10th, 1878 in Kindred, Cass County, North Dakota. Emma Josephine's father was Hans Evenson Bjerke and her mother was Martha Amundsdatter Stenehjem. Her paternal grandparents were Even Olson Bjerke and Martha Johnson; her maternal grandparents were Amund Asbjornson Stenehjem and Kari Olsdotter Qualey. She had five brothers and four sisters, named Andreas H., Andreas H. (Andrew), Edward H., Oscar H., Hjalmer H., Karen Maria, Hannah Matilde, Selma Oline and Ella Bergine. She was the fifth oldest of the ten children. She died at the age of 77 on January 11th, 1956 in Mayville, Traill County, North Dakota. She was buried in Mayville Cemetery, Mayville, Traill County, North Dakota.General Notes
