His paternal grandparents are William Williams and Martha Unknown; his maternal grandparents were Travis Roberts and Mary Ann Birtrong. He had six brothers and five sisters, named Benjamin, Andrew Clint, James Tee, Unnamed, Jimmiy, Lavoy, Mary Jane May, Louella, Gertrude, Ruby and Velma.
