Richard Wilkes 
Richard was born in 1842 in Itawamba County, Mississippi.1 Richard's father was Andrew Jackson Wilkes and his mother was Mary Ann (Polly) Basham. His maternal grandparents were Jonathan Basham and Elizabeth Hogan. He had four brothers and seven sisters, named James (Jim), William (Will), John R., George Washington, Elizabeth, Mary Martha, Margaret or Maggie, Frances (Frannie), America Carolina, Nancy and Sarah California.-
