America Carolina was born on March 1st, 1867 in Mississippi.1 America Carolina's father was Andrew Jackson Wilkes and her mother was Mary Ann (Polly) Basham. Her maternal grandparents were Jonathan Basham and Elizabeth Hogan. She had five brothers and six sisters, named Richard, James (Jim), William (Will), John R., George Washington, Elizabeth, Mary Martha, Margaret or Maggie, Frances (Frannie), Nancy and Sarah California. She died at the age of 72 on August 28th, 1939 in Hillsborro, Hill Co., Texas.1 General Notes
