Her paternal grandparents were Hugh Warren and Mary Elizabeth Hilbern; her maternal grandfather was Moses David Skaggs and her maternal grandmother is Mary Elizabeth Skaggs. She had three brothers and three sisters, named J. Elzy, Thomas, John Jazer, Mary Elizabeth, Nancy Jane and Sarah Jane. She was the third youngest of the seven children.
