Ruby Underwood 
Ruby was born in 1913 in Bell Co., Texas.1 Ruby's father was Perry Monroe Underwood and her mother was LeaNora Gregory. Her paternal grandparents were Lewis J. Underwood and Mary Jane Warren; her maternal grandparents were William Henry Gregory and Amanda Texana Graham. She had five brothers and five sisters, named Charles Walter, Thomas R., Frankie, Cecil Floyd, Arthur James, Ermine, Lois, Rosa Lee, Hazel and Aileen. She was the third youngest of the eleven children. She died at the age of 80 on August 16th, 1993 in Temple, Bell Co., Texas. She was buried in Val Verde Baptist Church Cementry.1 1 General Notes

My Aunt had polio when she was a child and always walked with leg bra
ce s. I saw her small crutches that her father had made for her so she c
ou ld get around. In her 40's she had Rita. Vernon was 9 years older th
an he r. Vernon worshiped the ground she walked on. And their child Rita w
as ve ry special blessing to the two of them. Her mother had not want
ed h er to marry or have children but when she saw how Vernon treated h
er and h ow happy Rita made the two of them she came to dote on the chi
ld as mu ch as the parents. Ruby died of Cancer. I have the bedspread th
at my Au nt crochet. This would have been Rita spread but Rita died befo
re her moth er also of Cancer. These were very special women and I want t
he bedspre ad to go to someone in my family who will know that this is a f
amily heirl oom that was made with love and care and that it is on
ly in my family beca use Rita never had children.
