Elizabeth was born in 1815.1 Elizabeth's father was Caleb Underwood and her mother was Elizabeth Mary Wardrum. Her paternal grandfather was James Underwood and her paternal grandmother is Keziah Unknown. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Younger Richard, Abraham Hiram, James, Joshua, Mary, Martha and Frances. She is the third oldest of the eight children.
