James T. Speaks

James T. was born on May 30th, 1823 in Morgan Co., Alabama.¹   James T.'s father was Wiley Speaks and his mother was Mary Elizabeth (Betsey) Murphey.  His maternal grandfather was James Murphy and his maternal grandmother is Rachel Laine. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Mary Ann, William Asbury, Samuel Jasper, Henrietta C, Martha Ann, Sarah Elizabeth (Sally) and Ellen Preston.  He is the second oldest of the eight children.
