James  continued entries in his fathers wast-book . He was a capta
in of t he schooner Nepturne and the Hannah and Molly at different time
s. His Revo lutionary service consisted of six months and twenty-four day
s. from Febru ary 05, 1776, to September 01, 1776, in Captain Briant Morto
n's company, s tationed on the seacoast at Cape Elizabeth and Scarboroug
h. He reenlist ed Sept 01, 1776, and served until November 25, 1776 (servi
ce two months a nd twenty -five days) in the same company , in Colonel Mit
chell's regimen t, at Cape Elizabeth and Scarborough.  The name, "James Sm
all " appear ed in a list of men who moved from the town of Cape Elizabe
th subseque nt to 1776, dated Cape Elizabeth , Jan uary 17, 1782, accompan
ying a peti on of the Selectmen stating their inability to supply their qu
ota. In Mar ch , 1777, when Peter Woodbury , of Cape Elizabeth acted as ag
ent to the h eirs of Daniel Small , of Truro, to prosecute their claims, J
ames Small w as firmly established at Ossipee, later Limimgton.
