Nancy was born in 1824 in Green Co., Kentucky.1 Nancy's father was Richard Skaggs and her mother was Jincy Jane Martin. Her paternal grandparents are David Skaggs and Margaraet Cannon. She had eight brothers and three sisters, named Henry C., Elias, William David, Jeremiah M., Jackson, Richard C., Greenberry P., Jacob, Caroline, Mary Jane and Elizabeth Ann.
