James Shorter 
James was born in 1810 in Franklin Co., Virginia.1 James' father was John Shorter and his mother was Nancy Palmore. His paternal grandfather was James Archibald Shorter and his paternal grandmother is Lucy Childrey. He had six brothers and two sisters, named Francis, William, Booker Randolph, Woodson Arthur, George Washington, Thomas H., Sarah and Frances. He was the fourth oldest of the nine children. He had two half-brothers named William and Booker. He died at the age of 80 on October 6th, 1890.1 General Notes
