Mrs. BLACK
Mrs. Avo BLACK of Fort Gates died Monday in Gatesville. She was 91. Ser
vi ces were held Tuesday at SCOTT's Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend R
ex TIL LY officiating. Burial was in King Cemetery. She was born Octob
er 17, 190 0, in Stanton, daughter of the late Steve and Leta ROGERS. S
he was rear ed and educated in Stanton, and later moved to
Coryell County where she attended Union School. She married Mr. Burne
ll B ASHAM in 1917 and her preceded her in death in 1944. She moved to Lo
vingt on, New Mexico, after his death and there married Mr. Oscar "Choc
k" BLA CK June 1, 1948. They returned to Coryell County in 1949. Mr. BLA
CK prec eded her in death February 12, 1986. She was a member of the Slat
er Quilt ing Club for many years and was an avid domino player. Mrs. BLA
CK was a C atholic. Survivors include two sons, B. A. BASHAM of DeLeon a
nd Jim Ed BAS HAM of Burnhart; a daughter, Mrs. Billie SKELTON of Gatesvil
le; a brothe r, Ben ROGERS of Izora; two sisters, Mrs. Ruby Lee HARR
IS of Lovington, N ew Mexico and Mrs. Florine BLAKELY of Izora; eight gran
dchildren and eig ht great-grandchildren. Mrs. BLACK's grandson serv
ed as pallbearers. Memor ials may be made to the King Cemetery Associatio
