James R. was born about 1851 in Texas.1 James R.'s father was John, Jr. Roberts and his mother is Nancy T. Russell. His paternal grandparents were John, Sr. Roberts and Susanna Mason; his maternal grandparents are Jamers R. Russell and Rutha Unknown. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Thomas H., John L., Angeline C., Lucy J., Paralee and Nancy C.. He was the second youngest of the seven children. te reco rd also verfies Mahala was in Oklahoma Territory at the time of h
er father 's death. There is no divorce record for Mahala and James Rober
ts in Hu nt Co, Texas. In researching the Fed Census of Brown Co. TX for 1
910, Maha la & Enoch Jones were found living in the next house to her daug
hter, Telu la (Lula) Roberts Smith. Also in the home was son, Elmer Jone
s, age 16, bo rn in Texas. Elmer is listed as a brother of Telula Rober
ts Smith in the F amily Bible kept by Elmer Doss Smith, son of Telula & Eu
gene Sue Smith.
They had two daughters named Telula Turentine and Lucy.

Telula Turentine was born on July 24th, 1873 in Hunt Co., Texas.1 She died at the age of 85 on May 22nd, 1959 in Abilene, Texas.1
