His maternal grandparents were Henry Basham and Martha Ann Warren. He had two brothers and a sister, named William Henry, Arthur Cleveland and Dora Elizabeth. He was the oldest of the four children. He died at the age of 85 on April 3rd, 1963 in St. Elizabeth H., Granite City, Madison Co., Illinois.
