John was born on October 2nd, 1798.1 John's father was William Paxton and his mother was Jane Grigsby. His maternal grandparents were John,3rd Grigsby and Elizabeth Porter. He had five brothers and ten sisters, named Joseph, Thomas, Samuel, Benjamin Porter, William,Jr., Betsey, Mary D., Martha Patsy, Phoebe, Rachel, Sallie, Frances Jane, Agnes Ann, Hannah E. and Verlinda.
