My Mother told me this stor y. She said t hat her grandmother's first husband died suddenly [in Ark .] that they liv ed in the mountains, a long ways from her parent's. She h ad to ride on a h orse several miles to reach her parent's home. She ro de with her infant s on in her arms, avoiding camp fire's, because there w as still renegade Ind ians around at that time. She reached her parent's h ome in the wee hou rs of morning. The men from her family went up to the m ountain the next d ay to get his body and brought it down for burial.
