Joseph Francis was born on December 10th, 1897 in Kirkland, Arkansas.1 Joseph Francis' father was Anthony Kirkland and his mother was Minnie Odell. His paternal grandparents were William (Bill) Kirkland and Sarah Smith. He had two brothers and a sister, named Lawrence Anthony, Erwin McDowell and Lenora Odell.
