Jones Rites To Be Said Friday At Local Church
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 for Pvt. Jack J
on es who was killed March 27, 1945, on the island of Tokoshika, near Okin
aw a. Jack was born in Breckenridge February 5, 1920. His father Ca
lv in J. Jones, passed a way in 1927. Jack attended school here, and w
as a bo xer in the Golden Gloves tournaments, winning the district welterw
eight ch ampionship in 1939.
He enlisted June 26, 1944 and trained at Camp Joseph T. Robinson at Li
tt le Rock. He was shipped to Fort Ord, California on November 23, a
nd we nt overseas December 19th. He was attached to the 77th Divisi
on on Ley te in Febuary, and fought in several engagements in that are
a. He w as in a rifle platoon. He was first buried on Zamima Shima.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Meda Jones, who lived in Breckenrid
ge u ntil recently. A heart condition has prevented her returning for t
he serv ices. Besides his mother he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Haz
el Pace a nd Mrs. T. V. Elliott, all of Midway City, Calif., four brother
s, R. P. Jo nes, Colinga, California, Clyde L., Long Beaach; Doyle, Denve
r, Colo; a nd Durwood of Crane. Jack is also survived by his two childre
n, Lannie a nd Jack, Jr., of McCamey. His former wife was Velma Huffman of
Eliasville.
The service will be held at the First Methodist Church, Rev. A. J. Mor
ga n, officiating assisted by Rev. W. V. Bane. The body will remain at t
he K iker Funeral Home until time for the service.
Interment will be in the Breckenridge Cemetery. The V.F.W., the Americ
an L egion and the National Guard will render Military honors. Pall beare
rs wi ll be Carl Morrow, George Martin, Jr.; H. L. Gunlock, Delton
