His paternal grandfather was Joseph Graham and his paternal grandmother is Clare Unknown. He had eight brothers and four sisters, named Cornelius J., Lewis Thomas, Evander, Daniel, William, Alva, Waterman, Covington, Helen Adaline, Florence, Laura Jane and Melia A.. He was the seventh oldest of the thirteen children. He died at the age of 73 on December 1st, 1934 in Horry Co., South Carolina.
