Living's father was Robert Lloyd Gause and his mother was Lola Jewell Martin. His paternal grandparents were Olen Brantley Gause and Lena Victoria Martin; his maternal grandparents were John D. Martin and Annie Brooke Griffith. He had three brothers and a sister, named Horace Oland, Charles Dean, Jackie Derrell and Vertie May.-
