John William was born on March 24th, 1808.1 John William's father was William Bacot Gause and his mother was Martha Frink. His paternal grandparents were William, Jr. Gause and Elizabeth Bacot. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Thomas Frink, Wesley Coke Asbury, Samuel Peter, William Fletcher, Elizabeth and Mary.
