Sarah Melissa Gardner 
Sarah Melissa was born on February 24th, 1832 in Upson County, Georgia.1 Sarah Melissa's father was John Gardner and her mother was Emeline "Emily" Beall. Her paternal grandparents were Sterling, Sr. Gardner and Mary Polly Neal; her maternal grandfather was Robert Beall and her maternal grandmother is Elizabeth Jenkins. She had six brothers and two sisters, named Robert Beall I, Thomas Neal, John, Jr., Sterling Capers, John Brantley, James Hightower, Mary Neal and Caroline Narcissa. She is the third youngest of the nine children.-
