John, Jr. Gardner 
John, Jr. was born on October 13th, 1828.1 John, Jr.'s father was John Gardner and his mother was Emeline "Emily" Beall. His paternal grandparents were Sterling, Sr. Gardner and Mary Polly Neal; his maternal grandfather was Robert Beall and his maternal grandmother is Elizabeth Jenkins. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Robert Beall I, Thomas Neal, Sterling Capers, John Brantley, James Hightower, Mary Neal, Caroline Narcissa and Sarah Melissa. He is the fourth oldest of the nine children.-
