Grover Payton was born on December 6th, 1900 in Woodbury, Cannon Co., Tennessee.1 Grover Payton's father was Adam D. Basham and his mother was Rachel Ann Scott. His paternal grandparents were James M. Basham and Mary Ann Stafford; his maternal grandparents are Hiram A. Scott and Nancy Ann Shelton. He had three brothers named Hiram Lawton, Vester Nuton and Roy Adam. He was the second youngest of the four children.
