Robert Hugh Basham 
Robert Hugh was born on August 15th, 1867 in Basin, Wyoming Co., West Virginia.1 Robert Hugh's father was William Blane Basham and his mother was Juliana Lydia Lilly. His paternal grandparents were James Eber Wiley and Rhoda Basham; his maternal grandparents were Joseph L. Lilly and Mary Polly Solesberry Shrewberry. He had six brothers and five sisters, named John Albert, Henry Johnson, William Joseph, Isaac Edmond, Sylvanus Eanon, Arden Lewis, Arminta Codine, Margaret Lucinda, Rosa Belle, Virginia Alifare and Louanna. He was the sixth youngest of the twelve children. He had a half-brother and three half-sisters, named James Preston, Julia Ann, Nancy Jane and Louisa E. (Lizzie). He died at the age of 84 on May 24th, 1952 in Columbus, Franklin Co., Ohio. He was buried in Union Cem., Columbus, Ohio.1 1 General Notes

ROBERT HUGH BASHAM
Robert Hugh Basham was born August 15, 1867, in Mercer County, West Vir
gi nia, a son of William B. and Julina (Lilly) Basham. He was a carpe
nt er by trade and a farmer by occupation. Bob first married May Mart
in of P ipestem District, but she died a few years later. His second marr
iag e, on November 18, 1891, was to Sarah M. Hatcher, a daught
er of Jo hn E. C. L. and Eliza (Lilly) Hatcher. They first settled near t
he Chimn ey Rocks on Ellison Ridge, but later sold their farm and moved aw
ay. He w orked in the coal mines for a number of years before being appoi
nted depu ty marshal.
He served in that capacity for several years. Robert and Sarah were de
vo ut Christians and were affiliated with the Baptist Church. In t
he fa ll of 1947, they gave up active farming because of failing health a
nd resi ded with their daughter, Mrs. Charles J. Moore, Marion, Illinoi
s. Robe rt H. Basham departed this life May 24, 1952, at the age of eight
y-four ye ars. His second wife, Sarah Basham, was the stepmother of Ada Ba
sham Shrew sberry, deceased, and of Roy L. Basham, deceased. Sarah celebr
ated her ni nety-third birthday on May 28, 1967. She departed this life D
ecember 1 2, 1967.
