Robert H Basham (Uncle Bob) was somewhat of a wanderer.  I remember h
is co ming to visit us in Columbus when I was 5 or 6 years old, and late
r, he ca me several times to Portsmouth when I was 7 or 8. (I loved Unc
le B ob - he always found time to play with me).  He was always alone, alt
hou gh he did marry and eventually lived in Billings, Montana, and had t
wo chi ldren, Walter and Elizabeth.  I never met Elizabeth, but I rememb
er Walt er - during the Depression Years - the 30's - when he come to Port
smout h, looking for work, found a job at the local steel mill, Portsmou
th Ste el Co., and stayed with us that entire summer.  Walter was a colle
ge gradu ate, later lived in Portland, Oregon, was married and has one dau
ghter; w as transferred to Hawaii, was divorced; moved back to Portland, O
regon, a nd I believe later remarried; his second wife died and whe
re he is no w, or even if he is still alive, I don't know.  I don't know a
bout Elizabe th. Letter dated Oct 31, 1988 from Helen Grissom
