Richard Basham 
Richard was born about 1789 in Bedford Co., Virginia.1 Richard's father was Archibald Basham and his mother was Winna Jons. His paternal grandparents were James Basham and Mary Unknown. He had six brothers and a sister, named Nathaniel, James Monroe, William, Drury, Nathan, Robert S. and Nancy. He was the fourth oldest of the eight children. He died on March 17th, 1854 in Lawrence Co., Tennessee.1 General Notes

LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF RICHARD BASHAM In the name of God Amen.
I Richard Basham of the County of Lawrence and State of Tennessee do he
re by proceed to make this my last will and Testament as follows (viz)
First that my body be decently buried and that all my funeral expe
ns es be paid. Secondly that all my just debts be paid out of the proc
ee ds of my personal property.
Thirdly I give to my beloved wife Phebe Basham all of my tra
ct of la nd on which now live during of her natural life. Together with a
ll my sto ck consisting of horses, cattle, hogs, sheep, household and kitc
hen furnit ure of every description also all my poultry of all kinds exce
pt that it m ay take of the above named personally property to pay my ju
st and lawful d ebts.
Fourthly I will after the death of my wife Phebe Basham to my son Sa
mu el H. Basham the described tract of land on which I now live to him a
nd h is heirs forever.
I further will that all my personally property, except what it m
ay ta ke to pay my just and lawful debts be sold at public sale on twel
ve mont hs credit, and the proceeds of sale be equally distributed among
st a ll my heirs viz Winny Kinnemore wife of Preston Kennemore, the h
ei rs of my daughter Mary Feugett, the heirs of my daughter Frances Potee
t, N ancy Wood wife of Solomon S. Woods, Malinda Basham wife of James M. B
asha m, William D. Basham, Archibald B. Basham, and Samuel H. Bashan maki
ng eig ht in all that shall share and share alike in the proceeds of my pe
rson al property that remains after paying my just debts and after the d
ea th of my wife Phebe Basham.
Fifthly I further will and appoint my son William D. Basham my Exec
ut or to carry into effect this my last will and testament. I further de
si re that all former wills and testaments made by me to be null and v
oi d. In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal this the 10
th d ay of March 1854.
