Ralph Newman was born on March 4th, 1932 in Basham, Floyd Co., Virginia.1 Ralph Newman's father was Amherst Sheridan Basham and his mother was Mary Jane Bower. His paternal grandparents were James Haden Basham and Laura Ellen Lawrence. He had two brothers named Amherst Sheridan, Jr. and Lane Bower. He was the youngest of the three children. He died at the age of 52 on August 4th, 1984 in Christiansburg, Montgomery Co., Va.1 General Notes
