Nathan 'Buren' was born on December 8th, 1854 in Sharlow, Boone Co., Virginia.1 Nathan 'Buren''s father was Nathan (Rev) Basham and his mother was Missouri Jane Miller. His paternal grandfather was Nathan, Sr. Basham and his paternal grandmother is Mary Lewis. He had five brothers and six sisters, named James M., William E., John A., Benjamin L., Isaac Snow (Ike), Nancy R. (Nan), Amelia, Eliza Ann (Lyde), Louise, Martha Eileen (Twin) and Mary E. (Twin). He was the fifth oldest of the twelve children. He died about August 1917 in Foster, Boone Co., West Virginia.1 General Notes

Information From Jack A Basham Letter
The story goes that my great-grandfather, Nathan Buren Basham, was actu
al ly married four times. He left his first wife, Augusta Winters, aft
er cat ching her "buggy riding" with another man and headed for Oklahoma w
he re he met and married an Indian woman and they had a child. There was a
ppa rently some trouble with the tribe and he took off for West Virgin
ia wi th the tribe on his trail. They never caught him and that is wh
en he m et and married Ellen Brinkley who would be my great- grandmothe
r. I've al so heard that Nathan Buren Basham had four brothers and sister
s. The on ly name that I've ever heard was Ike Basham. He was supposed
ly a rough ch aracter and was involved in a fight with a man in West Virgi
nia. He kill ed the man and headed for St Louis where he got in another f
ight and got k illed himself. I have no idea if there is any truth in thi
