Nannie Bell Basham 
Nannie Bell was born on February 21st, 1873 in Arkansas.1 Nannie Bell's father was Joseph P. Basham and her mother was Mary Jane Morris. Her paternal grandparents were Jonathan Basham and Delilah Payne. She had seven brothers and five sisters, named Joseph Lawrence, Thomas Lane, James 'Alvin', Jesse Isaac, C. B., Marian Clinton, Frederick Fenton, Sarah Delilah, Mary Lou 'Visa', Martha Adela, Alice Clementine (Tiny) and Ruth Amazon. She was the fourth oldest of the thirteen children. She had five half-brothers and five half-sisters, named Henry Jonathan, William O. (Rev), James, John, Samuel, Elizabeth Ellen, Abigail Suretha, Katie, Donana A. (Donnie) and Minnie L.. She died at the age of 71 on December 21st, 1944. She was buried in Sipe Springs Cem., Comanche Co., Texas.1 1 General Notes

"My grandmother's [Nannie Bell] husband was Benjarine Rye. We have ve
ry l ittle information on him. I don't know if they were married in Ar
k. or Tex as. My mother, Rhoda Ann Rye was born in Comanche Co. Texas. T
he only thi ng I ever heard about the Rye's was that they came over from I
reland duri ng the Gold Rush in California[My Mother's grandfather and a b
rother. I 'm not sure of their names. It seems like I heard the name Jam
es Benjarmi n. I don't know if that was my grandfather's name or his fathe
r's.
My grandfather Rye died in San Bernadino Ca. It had to be in the late 1
94 0's. He died several years after my grandmother. Nannie Bell had 6 chil
dre n, a son Joe, a daughter who died real young[I can't remember her nam
e] My mother Rhoda,Vernon,Ethel,and Walter.
My aunt Ethel was still living a couple of years ago,she was in her nin
ty s. She might still be living, I haven't heard about her decease. I don
't k now her married name,she has been married and widowed 4 times. I t
ry to ke ep in touch with her youngest son Floyd Brower through Christm
as card s. I haven't heard from him the last two Christmas's. He liv
es in Bishop C a. [We are both the baby's of our family's].
In my family, [Rhoda Rye Humphrey] Robert, Gloria, Dorathy, Ethel, El
le n, James, and Nancy[me] I didn't mean to write a book,but I am a talk
er ha .ha. The Rye family has just about ran out. I don't there was very m
any so ns born to the sons of Nannie Bell. Vernon had two son's that beca
me Prie st. Joe's son died young,Walter never married. I can't help but th
ink the re was another son, but I can't remember his name. I'll have to a
sk my bro ther Jimmy. He has been doing this genealogy thing too. Well I t
hink I ju st about covered it. I'm sorry about the Rye's. I wish I could f
ind out mo re.
Oh by the way we are distant cousins, both sides of our Basham
's go ba ck to John Sr. My great-great grandfather Jonathan was a broth
er to John J r.[both son's to John Sr. [I just figured it out] I talk a lo
t, but it tak es me awhile to catch on ha.ha."
