Her paternal grandparents were William Bassham and Margaret (Peggy) Unknown. She had six brothers and three sisters, named L. (M), Nathaniel T., Oliver Kenny, Walter Moses, William Thomas, James Monroe, Cora, Pearl L. and Ora M.. She was the fifth youngest of the ten children.
