Kermit Basham 
Kermit was born on November 17th, 1911 in Grandview, Johnson Co., Texas.1 Kermit's father was Virgil Nathan Basham and his mother was Sarah Ellen Kirkland. His paternal grandparents were Beuford B. Basham and Mary Jane Hall; his maternal grandparents were Robert Francis Kirkland and Frances (Fannie) Smith. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Infant Son, Infant Son, Myron (Toy), Ernest Virgil, Cleatus Mae, Vera Nell and Jewel. He was the third youngest of the eight children. He died at the age of 59 on July 17th, 1971 in Cleburne, Johnson Co., Texas.1 General Notes

Kermit Basham was born the fourth child of Virgil and Sarah Ellen Kirkl
an d. Kermit's mother died when he was only eight years old and the rai
si ng of the family was accomplished by the older children. It was neces
sa ry for Kermit to drop out of school at the end of the eighth grade a
nd he lp with the family farming.
Kermit married Frances Boteler when he was 21 years old and raised fo
ur c hildren. Kermit raised his family in the Grandview area until he purc
has ed 146 acres in 1946 in the Venus community. Kermit established his re
puta tion as one of the leading farmers in this area until his death in 19
71 fr om a heart attack at the age of 59.
