Joseph Allen was born on January 15th, 1833 in Breckenridge Co., Kentucky.1 Joseph Allen's father was George Dowell Basham and his mother was Susan M. Campbell. His paternal grandparents were Bartlett Basham and Rachel Mayberry; his maternal grandparents were John Campbell and Eleanor Denton. He had four brothers and six sisters, named Thomas M., George William, Winston Lowry, Crawford Milton, Barbra, Eliza E, Jerusalem Anne, Manerva, Amanda Jane and Susan.
