Jonathan Reed was born on September 11th, 1853 in Franklin Co., Virginia.1 Jonathan Reed's father was Millender Basham and his mother was Chelnessee Payne. His paternal grandparents were John, Jr. Basham and Frances (Franky) Meadors. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Elizabeth, Polly A., Joseph W., Sarah A., Mary A. and Cittura F.. He was the second youngest of the seven children. He died at the age of 40 on December 29th, 1893 in Lake Creek, Delta Co., Texas.1 General Notes

Jonathan Reed Basham (called Reed by friends) was born in Franklin Cou
nt y, Virginia as the 5th child of Millender Basham and Chelnessee Pa
yn e. He married Nancy Jane Jenkins in Franklin County in 1875. Reed m
ov ed to Texas about 1887. Reed and his wife joined the Methodist Protes
ta nt Church at Lake Creek, Texas on August 14, 1890. He was a farmer a
nd bou ght a farm 3 miles east of Lake Creek in Delta County, Texas in 189
2.
He had originally rented a farm until he bought the farm described ab
ov e. Unfortunately Reed died of pneumonia the following year (1893) a
nd is b uried in Pierce Cemetery, 1 mile north of Lake Creek. His wife, Na
ncy al so died of a heart attack in 1905 while four of the children were n
