John Basham 
John was born about 1838 in Franklin Co., Virginia.1 John's father was Jonathan Basham and his mother was Kittnah (Catherine) Payne. His paternal grandparents were John, Jr. Basham and Frances (Franky) Meadors. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Joseph N. (Jesse), Jeptha, Thomas, Edward G., Mary F., Eliana, Chella and Rebecca. He was the second oldest of the nine children. He had three half-brothers named James Samuel, William Sidney and Jonathan, Jr.. He died after 1880.1 General Notes
